The Architecture of Blood

the Seattle Times provided these words:

The minaret of a major Shiite mosque in Baghdad, where three suicide bombers killed dozens attending prayer services Friday, is reflected in a bloody pool.

It certainly would have read differently if the victims of the bombing had been European or North American.

Can u imagine if this had been a Catholic Church full of Italians?

A 5 year old girl was killed yesterday in one of the Israeli raids, and the local news just said in passing that Israeli security forces accidentally shot a 5 year old girl. They wouldnt have said the same if it had been an Israeli 5 year old girl who was a victim of a Hamas terrorist strike.

To "western" media, white lives mean more;thus merit more dramatic headlines.

Yeah, this mosque bombing has totally been ignored by the media. That's why it's on the front page of every paper in the country.

Nobody said it was "ignored". Pay attention!

The difference in treatment that non white deaths receive in the media is different. If you cant see that, than I dont know what the hell you have been reading.

SEME,

It is such a knee-jerk liberal myth that Israeli military attacks on Palestinians don't get coverage. The crushing Israeli violence against Palestinians has been front-page news forever. In fact, every Israeli move—internal politics, military—gets more coverage in the U.S. press than just about any other country.

Given that Israel is such a large reipient of U.S. aid, it makes sense that they get our media spotlight. But the point is: They do get the spotlight, warts and all.

(BTW: Egypt gets shit load of U.S. money too, but their storyline is barely in the U.S. press—including human rights abuses of its own population.)

And if you support the Palestinian cause, then you should be psyched when Hamas attacks on Israeli pizza parlors and discos make headlines. That's the whole point of the attacks: To call attention to their cause.

Well, at least it wasn't a crucifix immersed in urine - becase THAT is so much more offensive...

It must be a knee jerk conservative reaction to go into hissy fits about liberal this and liberal that.

For the sake of argument, I will repeat, I never said things never get coverage. I was not suggesting that the bombing of the mosque was not covered. I was reflecting on Mudede's post regarding the picture and the text that was put there by the Seattle Times. The point was that acts of violence against White victims get a different treatment in the way its written. That is all I was saying. I didnt put forth a theory as of why that is. Hell, I dont know, it could be because newspapers are about the bottom line and the majority of the readership of western papers are white, therefore their readers want to read about people that look like them in more sensitive terms. Maybe. Who knows.

I have never stated any support whatsoever for insane terrorists like Hamas and Hezbolah or any that bring suffering to inocent Israeli civilians and even to their own people. I dont know how you got there, but it must be something you picked up from reading the Completed Essays of Karl Rove. I was merely pointing out of the treatment a 5 year old Palestinian girl's death received in the media and I know it wouldnt have been the same if she had been an Israeli victim.

The facts are that when you read about the suffering of Israelis you will read about their suffeing, but you do not read about the brutal occupation of Palestine in the same way.
