Republicans and Whores

Posted by on April 28 at 8:39 AM

The party of family values—you know, the dickheads who are always screaming and yelling about how gay men shouldn’t be allowed to marry because, you know, we’re not so good at monogamy—has a growing sex scandal on its hands. There’s a great summary with plenty of juicy links up on Daily Kos. To sum up: GOP lobbyists were running a “hospitality suite” at the Watergate Hotel (!) that included the services of prostitutes. At least a half-a-dozen Republican congressmen have been implicated, as has the former Republican head of the CIA. The story is only just beginning to come out. La la la.

Yay! Yet another opportunity the opposition can fail to exploit! Yay!

This story is wonderful. It involves sex, bribes, and, according to the San Diego Tribune - trafficking since they took the prostitutes from Virginia and crossed state lines to go to D.C. to service the frat boys.

I can't wait to hear the "oh no, it's nothing like as bad as CLINTON" excuses come pouring out.

It's all bad. Republicans and Democrats both. I am voting green; how about you?

Truth and Justice: The only reason no Green Party elected officials have yet been implicated in a sex scandal is because THERE AREN'T ANY GREEN PARTY ELECTED OFFICIALS!

It's easy to resist temptation when no-one's offering.

It's not a "former Republican head of the CIA". It's the current republican head of the CIA, Porter Goss.

If the Democrats can get some puntang so can the Republicans hahahahahlol. This is a funny situation though.
Also in England(I know,I know this is America who cares about other countries blah blah)I saw it on BBC news- This so and so important guy whos a big whistle blower on the politicians who have affairs over there and who really gave them hell about it for ten years ,has just also got him some puntang, and it wasn't his wife. He looked funny as hell with his frown on TV. HaHAHA these poor smucks and there high falutin moral code. LOL.
I think sex always brings power to its knees.LOL.

Supposedly it's been going on since 1994, which means that some of those congressmen who were voting to impeach Clinton had just come from the open legs of a paid-for prostitute.

I'm starting to wonder if even some unopposed congresscritters are going to be defeated this fall.

See George Lakoff's "Moral Politics" on gay marriage, etc (skim till you find this discussion, there's a lot of fat in that book). The real objection to gay marriage is not promiscuity or whatever. It's about the right wing's strict father view of sexuality and social relations, where the dad is on the top, mom is underneath, and the kids are underneath that.

Same sex marriage upsets this hierarchy, because if you have two moms or two dads, who is on the top of the org chart?

The same is true for reproductive freedom. In the strict father world, dad controls the sexuality of everyone underneath him, and women exist to be wives in control of husbands or daughters in control of fathers until they become wives in control of husbands. Birth control and abortion upset this hierarchy by giving women more autonomy. That's why the right is always hot on those parental notification statutes.

Although it seems somewhat ethically and morally inconsistent, actually this sort of sex scandal isn't so out of sync with the above referenced stuff, because basically heterosexual men are the only people allowed to have control over their sexuality in this model (which overlaps with Latin American notions of Machismo). And while it might be frowned upon a little bit, basically it's a perk of the job of being the big daddy to get a little on the side.

Wait one moment, J-Lon, when conservatives have sex...
"dad is on the top, mom is underneath, and the kids are underneath that"?????

That is so wrong.

"Wait one moment, J-Lon, when conservatives have sex...
"dad is on the top, mom is underneath, and the kids are underneath that"?????"

Sounds a lot like Genesis, Chapter 19, Verses 30-38 (except in that case, mom is a pillar of salt. . .)

Also sounds like a tourists guide to West Virginia.

The politicians are the lesser of evils here. I say go after the lobbyists, the ones offering the free sex in hopes of political favors in return. I don't know many guys that would pass up a free blowjob from someone who is attractive and who knows what they are doing. As someone above rightly said, it is easy to resist temptation when nobody is offering.

It's easier to go after the pols, because they're breaking more laws. The constitutional right to petition the government has been upheld by the Supremes to include lobbyists. Blowjobs or whatever they were getting in those bedrooms is another matter; but yes, in fact, I very much do expect my representatives to turn down free blowjobs from attractive people in exchange for legislation.

Why do you hate Democracy?

The blow jobs don't bother me at all, but the hypocrisy is infuriating.

Blow jobs out of context don't bother me. Blow jobs in exchange for legislation are an outrage. "Insert this paragraph and you can insert your dick". That's worse than hypocrisy, though the hypocrisy stinks pretty bad too.

this was exploding on the blogs at Washington Post ...
