Re: The Full Monty

A friend of mine who moved to the East coast last year says the thing they miss most about Seattle is Comeback. They even wrote a god damn poem about it:

Ode to Comeback

O Comeback, you are more than a mere mortal dance night.
You’re a supreme drunken orgy of faggy delights.
Your jaeger flows freely, your bathrooms coed!
You sparkle as a diamond, or a glass of Moet.

On the dance floor, all of us strangers do mingle,
We talk at the bar, and we talk as we tinkle.
I’ve thumbwrestled with fags, I’ve argued with trannies,
I’ve danced the rumba with a fairy in panties.

The music is loud and the dirt fags are dirty.
The straight boys are quiet and the dykes are so flirty.
The dance floor is a make-out den of iniquity,
Be careful—it’s slippy and sloshy and liquidy!

The only reason I look forward to month’s end,
Is to loose my freak flag amongst my best friends.
In your hallowed space, I can let it all go
For what is a ho if she hasn’t a mo?

I have but one more Comeback before I skip town.
May 27th is when the shit goes down.
As I drive East afterward, hangover a-poppin‚
You will live on in my heart where the beats droppin.

sigh…

What fun! It sounds like the old Monday Nights at the old Brass Connection, when the whole neighborhood showed up for cheap well drinks and a floor show.

It was at the Brass Connection years ago when a certain someone who is now a prominent editor was kind enough to introduce himself. I was very shy and didn't know what to say. Of course, he was dressed as Mrs. Claus at the time.

I know this posting sounds very "Play Misty for Me" but that's not the case. The poem just made me take a stroll down memory lane.

Um. Friend. Yeah.

that is adorable.

if your friend is ever back in town, please let me know. i think anyone who immortalizes comeback in verse deserves a spot on the guest list.

mmm... FITS, thanks. i'm the poet, and an old friend of chompers mcdougan. tell him the bitch who once tried to throw him out of a moving car says hello.

feit-- thanks for posting this. you're a peach. and friend to the gay.

WOW- flashback---

so,,,a peom for "the Brass Connection" :

my very first local 'gay' bar when moving to seattle over 16 yrs ago!!!

=memories galore=

oh, brass , oh brass, you had no class,

but your drag queens all had the finest of ASS.

monday was such a good day to be gay, when all our favorites were out to play,,, seventy! five! cent! wells and 2 doller pitchers, plus, the dj would play every diva for those bitchers.

tuesdays were fun with the best show in town, The fierce cash prize contest never let -anyone- down! wednesdays and thursdays were also a blast, why, all this fun is not only in the past?

Zora, Roxy, Mark Finley, and more, so much fun, behind that big door...

Years of strippers, glamour, drugs, and gloom, and now my old Brass,,, is called the WAR ROOM.

xo

PS:

IMO : comeback stopped being real fun as soon as "the stranger" got a hold of it.
