Meanwhile, In the Austere World of Literature…

Haunted, Chuck Palahniuk’s newest paperback release, has a glow-in-the-dark cover. Watch out, Phillip Roth! Looks like someone’s got designs on your future Nobel.

Paul, on a somewhat related topic:

What is the best book you have read in the last year?

Does Haunted suck as much as everyone says ? I have always been a huge CP fan and own everything else, but I've been told almost unanimously that this book was awful.

I hated it. HATED IT. But my copy didn't have a glow-in-the-dark cover. Maybe that would have changed things.

hahaha!! That could really change things for me, too.

I'm not going to buy it. If I remember to pick it up from one of my many disappointed friends who don't care about how I accidentally destroy every book I read, I'll check it out then.

A glow in the dark fold over flap would be handier. You could use it to read the book in the dark. From the posted comments though maybe it's better as is so that you can use the glow in the dark covert to illuminate a book worth reading.
The glow in the dark cover does seem apt for a writer of hollow stories sustained by gimmicks.

Tim: I hate you.

But Lullaby was fantastic, Tim. You should read Lullaby before you blanket all Chuck's work at hollow and gimmicky (because sometimes gimmicks are right on the money). So read Lullaby. Do it now. NOW>

I really wanted to like Palahniuk, but he frankly isn't very talented. Fight Club is a much better movie than a book. Lullaby sucked soooo much that I don't know if I'll ever be able to read another thing by him.

I bought _Haunted_ and tried to read it, but couldn't get past the first story ("Guts"). I have a pretty strong stomach-- I wrote a chapter of my thesis on Bret Easton Ellis, for gosh sakes-- but damn, that book is disgusting! I for one was shocked.
