KEXP Adds Stranger Flavor

Posted by on April 4 at 10:26 AM

To follow up on a previous Slog post, Stranger writers Charles Mudede and Larry Mizell Jr. (the latter also raps in hiphop trio Cancer Rising) have finalized plans to co-host KEXP’s local-music program Audioasis on the third Saturday of every month. The eloquent, knowledgeable duo starts educating listeners in the art of Seattle hiphop on April 15. More information will surely appear here in the near future.

This is very exciting.

That's actually a good move. I think rotating the genre focus of Audioasis makes for a healthier local music show. They've got the boring, indie rocker segment nailed. Not it's time to bring on the local hip hop, then metal.

It'd be nice if they expanded their focus a bit.

Great. The Stranger gains yet more control over the social customs of Bumblefuck, WA.

I can't wait to move somewhere where there's an actual plurality of artistic viewpoints, rather than an insular "tight-knit" scene, dominated by a small circle of ridiculous hipsters.

We'll sure miss you.

here's the thing. you can sit on the sidelines and bitch about the insular, cool-kid circles(which are definitely there), or you can actually get on your own grind and force them to aknowledge who you are and what you do. i came into our local hiphop scene an outsider(or at least, little more than a fan) with no affiliations with any of the clicks clans posses or crews, media outlets or what have you. i am staunchly anti-status quo about this shit and i honestly think you'd find -if you put your bid in and in turn, matched it with the work- that shit ain't quite as closed off as you think. and it's getting better all the time. just a thought.
