Don’t forget about Lineout!

Posted by on April 25 at 15:47 PM

I just posted a long show review in the new music-only blog, Lineout. While I don’t want to bore everyone here who may not give a shit about how fun an all-ages show was last weekend at the Old Fire House, I know some of you might wanna see it, so don’t forget to check out Lineout, where the Stranger’s music writers will be posting obsessive music-geek posts all day long!

of the three posts made today on Lineout, one also appears on the Slog. Are the music posts really so overwhelming the they require a separate site?

I like the idea of the Lineout. My hope would be that if there aren't enough posts yet, there will be. Local music is an area that the Stranger is in a unique position to cover in great detail. And while the paper does a great job here already, space is limited in the paper. So perhaps this will allow even more stuff to receive some attention.

Lineout and Slog are both filters of a sort. Slog is a more general purpose filter. Lineout seems like it will be a more specialized filter. To me that explains why the same post might appear in both areas sometimes, if in the judgment of the editorial staff it's of general interest, it makes sense in the Slog too. If not, keep it in Lineout.

If you use an RSS feed reader to interact with blog content, you'll understand why this can be a great arrangement. That's the point of multiple RSS feeds, to give the user control over how they want to interact with the content.

Along those lines, one suggestion about the Lineout RSS feed. Can someone tweak the XML or whatever makes the RSS feed for the blog go, so that the by-line of the person posting appears under the header of each entry, as on the Slog. I like to know who is saying what.

At least right now in Bloglines, it doesn't say.
