Colossal Blunder

Posted by on April 20 at 10:25 AM

How will history look upon our Dear Leader’s reign? Rolling Stone asked an actual historian to weigh in. What he has to say ain’t pretty for Bush.

As every schoolboy knows, "actual historian" Sean Wilentz is a left-wing lunatic. As every schoolgirl knows, actual history isn't written by the victors; it's written by the Democrats.

You disagree with Wilentz and the consensus of historians, then, PB? Care to make a wager and check the CW in 20 years or so?

RS must really think their readership is D-U-M, dumb.
"In fact, roughly one in ten of those who called Bush a success was being facetious, rating him only as the best president since Bill Clinton -- a category in which Bush is the only contestant."

It's early for consensus, D. As Chou en Lai said when asked to evaluate the French Revolution, it's too early to tell.

My point is that the prieshood of historians, like every academic American priesthood I know of, is dependably & reflexively liberal. Wilentz was bashing Bush in paid New York Times adverts even before Bush bashing was cool.

Like any broken clock, he may finally be right. My best guess is that Iraq is not our greatest foreign policy blunder since the Bay of Pigs, which toppled like a dominoe into Vietnam. My best guess is that Iraq is our greatest foreign policy blunder ever, but it's too soon to tell.
