Burner Qualifies for National Dem Fundraising Program

Posted by on April 27 at 10:24 AM

As expected, Democrat Darcy Burner has qualified for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red-to-Blue” program, which channels expert advice and big donor cash into close Congressional races.

Remember, the Democrats need to pick up 15 seats in the House this fall to regain control of that chamber, and the non-partisan Rothenberg Report recently described Burner’s race against freshman Republican Congressman Dave Reichert as a “toss up” race (still tilting in the Republicans’ favor, but only slightly).

By placing Burner among the 22 candidates to qualify for this “Red-to-Blue” program, the DCCC is signalling its belief that Burner can take the eastside’s 8th District from Reichert, and in doing so help the Democrats take back Congress.

Let's hope the Dems do more channeling of $$$ and less of "expert advice" such as we saw in Kerry's 04 campaign and Cantwell's this year.

Yeah, I thought you guys were pretty down on out-of-state expert advice... didn't you just upbraid Cantwell for that sort of thing?

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. ;)

GiantLadySquirrels: That was Josh, not me.

Why do they need a program for this? I thought the idea the party backed her in the first place was BECAUSE they focus on winning seats in swing districts? It seems needlessly redundant.

Giant Lady Squirrels,

I criticized Cantwell for hiring—that is PAYING—out of state consultants and fundraisers and for bringing out-of-state talent to run her campaign here on the ground, rather than tapping local talent.

This Red-To-Blue money doesn't catch Burner paying money to out-of-state consultants. It has Burner GETTING money from the national party apparatus. It'd be great for Cantwell to get a download of cash from the party in D.C.
