And So It Begins…

Posted by on April 3 at 17:30 PM

First game of the season: Anaheim 5, Mariners 4. Jamie Moyer pitched well, new catcher Kenji Johjima spanked a ball out of the park, and reliever J.J. Putz lived up to his name, coughing up two runs in the ninth inning.

Mariners baseball is back.

Moyer gave up two runs as well, he pitched ok for a 65 year old man, I wouldnt say he pitched well. Vlad took him deep in the first and the ball still has not landed. He is done, too damn old to be out on the mound. He was throwing 50 mph. My mom could throw harder than Moyer, I have no idea why they resigned him. Fuck sentimental favorite, I want a winning team.

The Mariners had the bases loaded with nobody out and they couldnt bring One lousy runner home. The new catcher looks good, but the pitching is one of the worst in baseball.

bases loaded and no outs w/o scoring is bad business and a bad omen - one of the most disappointing outcomes in the game. However, coming within one run, is a hopeful sign - they need a new G.M. as much as anything..

Unlike last year, this team seems like it can compete and stay in games. Last year's team would fall behind and stay behind.

Moyer gave up that home run, but no one besides Vlad Guerrero touches that ball, let alone smacks it 450 feet.

The Mariners left the bases loaded so many times last year, and while it was disconcerting to see it once, at least they responded several other times over the course of the game. Seeing how Kenji played overall, even on his outs, was very encouraging.

If you thought Moyer sucked, wait till you see Joel Pineiro and Gil Meche. Their suck is in a class by itself.

Time to enjoy not being alone in last place for a little while.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the ebola virus will take out 90% of the bullpen.

They already pitch like they have Ebola virus or at the very least chronic diahereah.

Moyer got lit up for 9 hits and gave up 3 runs. How is that pitched well?

Piñeiro needs to win at least 12 games, or he should be sent to the last place hell of Kansas city along with Bavasi.

Oh, I can hear it approaching in the distance....Wait, listen. Hear it? wah, Wah, WAH!! It's the Wah-mbulance! Somebody called the Wah-mbulance on the first day of the '06 season!

Listen to all you "Seattle fans" already. The first day and you're all throwing in the towel. Geesh, best of luck in your relationships; I hope you use whatever resolve you have towards at least one single person who like or unlike yourself isn't perfect.

Yes, they didn't score with the bases loaded and no outs. That was the big miss of the game, it is true. But that was after Moyer had a rough start then bounced back, Vlad golfed a ball out of the park, and The Mariners rallied to tie the game and chase a very good pitcher in Colon out of the game.

Soriano got the out he needed after scaring the crowd with a wild pitch the first time he threw.

Putz, well that did suck; he couldn't pick up his man Sherill, who did his job out of the pen -- reminds one of the many blown games Putz had last year.

And then...the exodus. Mariners fans have to get a life and stick up for their team. Something I think that's intolerable is how the pippy-pants Mariners "fans" run out of the stadium at any sign of trouble. I'm surprised people weren't trampling each other in the isles to get out after the third inning.

The reality of it is that the Mariners have an uphill battle again this season. Positivism is a paramount ingredient, and is something that the fans can help to provide. They played a good game against a very good Angels team, they fought back not once (to tie) but twice (Petagine's HR against K-Rod in the bottom of the ninth -- which could have tied the game if only Reed could have gotten on base), so show some support for Pete's sake.

I had a couple of dads sitting behind me who were exchanging ESPN talking points all game -- which, fine, go ahead, it's all in good fun. But as soon as Cabrera hit the two run single in the top on the ninth, the two dudes started trash talking the Mariners like they had no reason to be on the field and like the dad-dudes had wasted their money in coming to the game. And to top it off, one of the dudes was uttering "strike three" about Petagine just as he swung and hit the ball out of the park.

You get out there and do better, I challenge you. If you can't, give a little something from your tenacious side and support your team -- try to bring something uplifting. There are a lot of young guys and new guys out there and they need to feel some support from us. Positivism trumps adversity. You can count me in.

Oh, but wait a minute, you're really a Yankees fan? -- my bad. It took you till the bottom of the ninth to tell everyone around you that you only support winning teams. Man, The Yanks really beat up on the A's, hunh? Oh yeah, Vinny, let's go get a fukkin slice!

Whatever. The fact is they need pitching, it has nothing to do with "fans."

We dont owe them, they owe us. We built them the damn stadium!

I know is a long season, but the team didnt look good in the cactus and they dont look good now. Its a tough division and they need pitching if they want to compete. What the hell is 85 year old Moyer doing on the mound for us? He is a fan favorite? Wahhh. So what? He is a rich man, he can move on, he has nothing left, if he keeps pitching like that, theyre going to light him up. Teams watch films and they look for vulnerable pitchers. Guess what? A slow pitcher is not a "specialist" he is vulnerable.

Moyer was great in his day, but why do we have to keep subsidizing senior citizen ball players?

The bats should be OK, but if Beltre doesnt start hitting, he is going to be another Jeff Sirilo.

For the record. I never leave games early and I was cheering for this team before 95, when they were stinking up the place with Spoljerick, Bobby Ayala, Timlin and Heathcliff Schlocum, who we got ater we traded Veroteck and Derrick Lowe. What a great trade. The M's make great trades, like a mediocre player like Reed for a potential Cy young like Freddy Garcia or how about Rich Aurilia for Carlos Guillen who went on to become an All star at Detroit!!

This management sucks and if you keep supporting blindly and they keep filling the stadium then they will keep on sucking.

Being a fan does not mean you dont call a sucky team a sucky team, you still cheer for them and you still stay til the last pitch, but you dont just say ! Good job guys! while theyre stinking up the place. Thats not a fan, thats a masochis. I grew up in Philly; fans back east dont baby their teams, when they suck, they tell them they suck, that is why the Yankees are a great team, regardless what we think of them. If they suck for a year their fans let them know it and they make the changes. What good does it do to fill a stadium if theyre going to lose 90 games again.

Well at least I have tickets for the Aquasox season as well.

Oops.

I meant masochis(t).

I meant Jeff Cirillo not Sirilo. Either way he still sucked.

Good SEME, someone out there is fired up!

Carlos Guillen in Detroit, Freddy in Chicago, I say WAH to that.

Good or bad, I maintain, you have to support your guys. Not run out of the place like you just dropped your dog off at the pound to be put to sleep.

Yes, damn you Jeff Cirillo, Rich (two errors on opening day last year) Aurilia, Sandfrog Spezio, etc. Front office, yes we know it was you.

You'll have to admit that there's a fan problem when the cheering is loudest for the friggin powerboat races.

This fan-noise thing they try to whip up at the stadium is a goddamned wannabe scam.

If we're gonna get rid of sucky, let's not forget to run the damn groundskeepers/dancers to the top of the list. What an embarrassing tradgedy. 80 Crazy Dances to go, fans. Worse than a bad team, I'll posit, is a horrible display like that each game, and the fans cheering like you're at the cheesiest, champagne fountain wedding reception you've ever been to.

Isn't it a time honored tradition for baseball fans (or Seattle fans of any sort, really) to bitch about the team and never, ever give in to any form of optimism? I still love the M's, and cheer until the final pitch (unless I'm too shit-faced). It's kind of like my whore cousin. I can call her a whore and disparage the scumbag she lives with, but if anyone else does, they'll get a fat lip, or at least I'll write something bad about them on the internet.
And our pitching is atrocious. I like Jamie, but should he be our “Ace?”

Amen pope.

Jamie is a set up man at best. Felix is our Ace, but knowing the Mariners, they would probably trade him for Jeremy Reed's uncle. I have nothing against Moyer, and I thank him for his service, but public inbreates throw harder than him.

For the record, I hate the following:

The boat races
the hat trick
the bloopers video
the lady sitting two seats down from me asking -who the guy in right field is and what does he do.
5 dollar beers ( I sneak my on Cans of Fosters)
the wave
garlic fries

I would gladly give all that away for a couple of pitchers.

Do you guys remember when the M's sucked so bad they use to give tickets away at Eagle hardware if you bought a wrench set? There was something poetic about those games at the Kingdome.

Crap. That time already, eh? The traffic headaches are back.

What a Putz!
