My vagina and I agree that this is bullshit.

I can't even begin to explain how much this infuriates me.

according to the article, you ass agrees too.

ZING!

I think what bothers me more is that the origional sentence that he would have gotten was only 8 years! 8 years for handcuffing, beating, vaginally and anally raping, and then publicly humiliating a woman?!?! What the hell is wrong with us?

Sorry about the misspelling of original. I was upset. Won't happen again.

Having recently spent some time in Italy, I must say this does not surprise me one bit. If the woman had been Italian, I am almost certain that this would not be the same verdict and the young rapist would be on his way to a cozy prison in Napoli where he would be treated accordingly by his Camorra cell mates.

A lot of Italians view Nigerian women as prostitutes and many live isolated and invisible lives in Italian cities. Nigerian crime gangs use this isolation and lack of protection to intimidate women they bring up from Lagos to serve as sex slaves. You can drive down the backroads of Umbria and see lonely women on the roads standing there. They come from Rumania, Albania and Nigeria and have absolute zero protection from Italian authorities, this verdict is just a reflection of how Italian society feels about them. Italy, like most of Europe, is liberal as long as youre a European Union citizen.

This would seem to set a truly disturbing legal precedent -- if there weren't already a longstanding history of the U.S. protecting its soldiers from criminal prosecution abroad. It's not just a job, it's a defense team.

i thought the article said that it was an italian court that tried him, and the same italian court that reduced his sentence.

prison terms are different in europe, murders that would get the death penalty here only get 20 years over there. so to them 8 years is a pretty harsh penalty.

FUCK THAT!

c'mon, everybody -- sing together now:

"Hooray for the red, white and blue..."

I swear Italian judges are a bunch of misogynists. There was a lovely case a couple of years ago. An Italian judge threw out a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans. It was his opinion that it would be impossible for the rapist to take off the victim's jeans without her consent.

There also was a somewhat unrelated court decision a few years ago. An Italian court ruled that a man didn't have to pay child support because his wife refused to have sex with him after she gave birth to their child.

Didn't the Italian Supreme Court recently rule that rape or molestation of a non-virgin was not that bad and rapists should be given reduced sentences if the girl had had sex before? Is there a first world country that is more misogynistic?
