I realize we’re already having a banner week for horrible news about reproductive rights and women’s health, but this report by Human Rights Watch has to be acknowledged, as unpleasant as it is.

I don't agree. I think South Dakota's new law is EXCELLENT news for women's reproductive rights, and most right-wing anti-abortion kooks agree with me--they're horrified.
The thing is, the way it's written, the Supremes are going to have to strike it down even though they mostly don't want to. For the abortion foes, it's the wrong law at the wrong time, and gives choicers what will probably turn out to be an easy victory.
And anything that forces to the forefront the fact that the vast majority of Americans share the viewpoint that most abortions should be safe and legal is in the long term good news.
I'm really starting to hope that we're approaching a watershed, where Bush's colossal failure brings the whole conservative movement into shame and disrepute.
