My Oscar Party group was just discussing that--we decided that she seemed healthy, just infirm, most likely due to her advanced age. She's in her early 80's, so it's not out of the ordinary that she should have slowed down a bit. I tried a 'net search and turned up nothing re: failing health, broken hips, etc.

Old or not, the woman still has a dead sexy voice.

Damn straight. That's half the reason I was concerned--'cause you KNOW Lauren Bacall wouldn't be be prone to physically rattling stagefright. 81, shaky or not, she's smoking.

I had to call my mother to remark about Lauren Bacall messing up her lines. My mother said, "If you can't read the lines from a teleprompter, it's time to hang it up."

If Lauren Bacall can no longer do commercial voiceovers, though, they could just get Christiane Amanpour to fill in.
