Sonic Bust?

Posted by on February 28 at 12:27 PM

I just got off the phone with Rep. Jim McIntire’s office. McIntire (D-46, North Seattle) is sponsoring the Sonics legislation on the House side. (There’s a Senate companion bill being sponsored by Sen. Margarita Prentice (D-11, S. and W. Seattle, International District, Burien, and Tukwila.)

While there’s a lot of intriguing back and forth going on between the city and the county over control of the revenue stream and wether or not the Sonics should put some money on the table, it might not even get that far in the House. Asked about rumors that the bill might die, McIntire’s office was pretty candid: “I’d say that it looks dead.”

Hopefully, I’ll get an updated assessment from McIntire himself later today

Schultz can put a shitty coffee shop on every corner in the world, but he can't put an imposing center in the paint for the supes. I say we call his bluff just on principle.

Prentice controls the budget in the Senate, as Chair of the Ways & Means Committee. She may be able to use this to force Sonics legislation forward as part of the budget package, unless the rest of the Senate leadership stands up to her (i.e. Majority Leader Lisa Brown of Spokane).

If it's part of the Senate budget package, it could then get included in the joint House-Senate package and voted on in the House as well.

Instead of fighting for TRUE economic development in Latino communities like South park, Prentice is busting her ass trying to get the Sonics a sweet deal.

Oh where have you gone Cesar Chavez?

Er... the International District (where I live) is not in the 11th District, it's in the 37th. If I remember correctly the northern edge of the 11th is in Beacon Hill.

So?

She represented South Park before they switched it around.
