Arts Shut Out of the Laser Dome

So I arrived at the Laser Dome for Plan B Orchestra’s Laptop Laser concert at 10:25 pm (start time was 9:45) only to discover nobody at the ticket booth, the gates locked, and me and a Stranger coworker contemplating our climbing skills and whether it was worth risking injury to get into the venue. We decided not to try to vault the 12-foot gates and opted to drink to forget this disappointing experience.

I have to wonder why operations were shut down when, according to an attendee reached by cell phone, the actual show hadn’t even begun yet! Can anyone at Pacific Science Center explain the reasoning behind this policy? More importantly, can anyone who caught Plan B Orchestra let me know how it was?

While I agree it's lame for the Pacific Science Center to close the ticket booth so early, maybe you should have considered that the venue isn't an actual club and perhaps avoided being fashionably late. Just a thought...

i used to volunteer @ the science center when i was a kid. they're very anal about closing the doors in a timely fashion. i don't know exactly why, but i'd guess that it's because the evening laser show crowd tends to be a bit rowdier, and it takes them longer to get seated (or lay down, to be more accurate). they don't let people in late because since almost everybody is laying all over the floor, people have actually gotten kicked in the face and shiz. or so the story goes...

The place is pitch-fucking-black...it's probably an insurance issue for the joint. As I recall, they don't allow late entry for their regular Pink Floyd shows, either.

Those of us who were there at 10pm like the ad said didn't have a problem getting in. The show was phenomenal, by the way.

It figures--the one time I get to a venue late, I get shut out of something extraordinary. I'm usually punctual as fuck. Oh well, live and learn.

dave, i'm going to take a different opinion and say that you didn't miss all that much. sure, the lasers were interesting, but on the whole it wasn't anything new. it was really just a plan b show with lasers, where i was hoping for a plan b show: WITH LASERS!!!!
