Slog - Comments on Rock Royalty

Did anyone watch Prince on Saturday Night Live this weekend? He was H-O-T. Seeing someone with so much natural talent just further highlights the completely pathetic nature of the Ashlee Simpsons of the world with their pretend talent....

It was fantastic. What a great perfomer! There is nothing like experience, you know, years of making music. Whether you like a particular song or not, his presence on stage is mesmerizing. Years ago, circa Purple Rain, I had a dream that he picked me up in a black and white checked coupe-like car. It was one of the few dreams of my life that involved a famous person and also one of the most vivid.

I agree--during the first number, where he was freaking out on guitar while singing in the most relaxed and expressive voice, reminded me why he's one the greats.

then came the second number, featuring one his lifelong weaknesses: sucky women. well, not sucky, but prince has a habit of trying to sell the world women artists who just don't have that much to offer.

Yeah, he is the talented one. That goes with a Debbie Downer face. Just for conversation's sake, I wonder what the motivation is: giving a gal an opportunity or wanting some inspiration - ?

I reached for the remote control 2 seconds into the first song because I knew it was going to be great, I had to hit the record button to show my friend later. I loved the dancing, they reminded me of Tina Turner and her dancers. The second song was weak (for reasons already stated), but I could watch the first performance 5 times on repeat without pause. Awesome.
