Re: What’s that Girl Doing?

Posted by on February 24 at 14:27 PM

What’s she doing? It’s a loving crotch nuzzle. Is that so rare? One of the perks of a relationship, short- or long-term, is the right to give/receive the occasional crotch nuzzle, right?

Scene: It’s the moment before… he’s sitting on the couch, she’s sitting cross-legged on the floor. No power dynamic at work there—sometimes he sits on the floor and she sits on the couch. The share a laugh—perhaps about the sexual attraction they share, or maybe about a happy sexual memory. She leans forward and gives him a crotch nuzzle, he responds by giving her a hug with his legs.

Again, what’s so awful? It’s an adult moment, but not a pornographic moment, intimate but not dirty, erotic but not explicit.

And, for the record, censorship offends MY feminist principles. But, hey, any month in which we manage to piss off Christian nutjobs, Muslim cry babies, and feminist censors is a good month in my book.

maybe the feminist censors are just, you know, having their monthlies, and taking it out on your weekly.

Crotch nuzzle or not, that's one ugly fucking couch.

Agreed.

Oh god TOTALLY

With the shit happening in South Dakota (the right to a safe and legal abortion in the United States) and the shitstorm basically everywhere in the Middle East and THIS get almost 40 comments. I don't get it.

Agreed, Okaythen.

But what can Seattle folks do about the rube legislators in North Dakota? We can only watch in horror, write a check to NARAL, and then go find someone who voted for Nadar in 2000 and slap his fool face.

SOUTH Dakota.

Er, right.

and all this time I thought it was a sly American Apparel ad.

I vacilate whether those undies are cute or not.

Dan, you let us off the hook for voting Nader and we'll forget about you endorsing GWB in the 2000 primary in print.

I will forgive any Nader voter who takes it upon his or herself to beat the crap out of Democrats who say "I kind of like McCain."

I guess we can't car bomb the SoDak State Legislature but there must be more than giving $ to NARAL -- which I already do religiously. These fuckers are even attacking Birth Control for damn sake. The right and ability to get BIRTH CONTROL is now a fucking issue!! What's next head scarfs and long black dresses?

Y'all sure do get bent out of shape about abortion. Isn't it already effectively "banned" in places like Mississippi and Alabama where there are like, no clinics?

Access to birth control is a big deal, and everyone should have access to abortion. But if they have to drive a few hours to have one, so what?

Speaking as a unrepentant feminist, I must say that true feminists abhor censorship. Granted, defining "true feminism" is about as easy as defining "true punk," but cover-ripping lady sounds fucking hysterical to me.

cheers to you, okaythen. young women (those of reproductive age are the ones that should be most concerned) need to wake the fuck up and realize that their rights are slowly (but surely) being taken away.

dan, pissing off people for the sake of pissing them off does no good. you already know this. my feminist principles are offended not by the crotch shot (pretty tame and boring, to be honest) but by the fact that it's a wasted cover image.

far more compelling (particularly in light of the south dakota debacle) would be a picture of the moron protesters that regularly stand outside a clinic that provides abortions.

i am talking about a clinic very near your office, located in the heart of supposedly "liberal" capitol hill.

paul says: "But if they have to drive a few hours to have one, so what?"

wow. apply this same theory to any medical procedure, my friend.

perhaps the next time you need medical care, you can drive a few hours out of your way to recieve it.

yeah, we get "bent out of shape" over this. abortion is a medical issue, not a morality issue.

i thought the cover of the stranger was used to feature artists' works. so.. if that's the intent, and that's what they did, what are you all bitching to them for? why don't you bitch at the photographer.

here I'll help you, here's HER website:

http://www.yerinmok.com/

And get your panties out of bunches. FUCK!@

I feel the need to point out that one can't get pregnant (possibly necessitating a soon to be banned abortion) by doing what that girl may or may not be doing in that photo...assuming it is a girl...even if it isn't I still hate the couch.

Two words: Direct Action.

My point is I don't really give a shit about the cover on the Stranger -- I care about the fact that over 50 posts have now been made about it when South Dakata is deliberately trying to overturn Roe v. Wade now that the Supreme Court is ripe.

Paul, if that happens, then it's State by State and there are only 9 who have state constitutions that protect this very central medical right (that will be a pretty far drive for most of the women in this country).

Choice is important to all women (and a lot of men). Choosing when and if you want children is central to a persons life, opportunities, and even percieved opportunities. Some times birth control fails or sometimes people make a bad decision...they should still be able to take their own circumstances and values into consideration and make a CHOICE! So yay, I get worked up about abortion, your right!

I always appreciate the "what the fuck" doubletake of the stranger's covers.

and thank goodness they didn't do anything more literal…

maybe the reason people posted more on this cover than over the slog post on abortion, is because, maybe, like me, some people see south dakota as a blip in the larger scheme of things. as I see it, it will be challenged, taken to the courts and over turned. so maybe there's not as many comments, because some folk view south dakoter as an ass backward state out of step with the rest of the country, and as a non-threat. sure, the legislature passed a ban, but it will be defeated.

however, that cover has obviously gotten the attention of people. maybe art is more important to people than the rabble rousing of some conservative fucktwads.

geeze okaythen, you keep screaming that there are too many blog posts about this and not about the SD abortion news, but actually half the crotch nuzling posts are YOU talking about reporductive rights under assualt in SD!

But seriously, your right, it's scary as hell cause this is going straight to the Supreme Court which has recently become a Pro Life wet dream.

If "every sperm is sacred" are wet dreams murder?

Oh yeah, and that dude is in that wonderful moment when you know you are about 30 seconds away from a glorious BJ. Sweet Anticipation.

Those "rabble rousing conservative fucktwads" run our country.

They are also mounting assaults against Roe in many other states, often winning because people like you falsey believe Roe will never be overturned and assert any idea to the contrary is paranoid.

I wish i had your faith in the supreme court, but you'll eventually figure out those "conservative fucktwads" are chipping away at Roe and won't stop untill its gone or just a hallow version of it's former self.

Thank you, Dan Savage and the Stranger, for introducing me to "crotch nuzzling." That looks hot. To give or receive.

lets see how long it takes SD women to turn it into a blue state.

1 election cycle?

and I still say its two emo/whitebelt boys crotchnibbling.

I didn't realize that wasting a stranger cover on an image that didn't appeal in a universal way to absolutley every reader was a feminist issue either.

Live and learn.

And how many of the posts in comments are about abortion now? Lots.

Unfortunately, if Roe is overturned this time (which is highly unlikely), anti-choice women aren't going to have a sudden change of heart. As far as they're concerned, they don't have to worry about it. They'll never get pregnant accidentally. They'll never be the victim of rape, or even just find themselves pregnant at a very bad time. It's the ultimate complacency. Fucking Americans.

"Crotch Nuzzle"?!?!? That is AWESOME.

I think that photo is ultrafeminist. The receiver of that crotch nuzzle is a woman. Look at the arm on the couch. And the bracelet.

Kerri Harrop said : wow. apply this same theory to any medical procedure, my friend.

perhaps the next time you need medical care, you can drive a few hours out of your way to recieve it.

And, because my life centers around this right now, I will point out that I have to drive 6 hours and accross 2 states to recieve the medical care I need. There are no neurologists with the skills I need in rural USA. So, this already applies to other medical procedures, Kerri, and maybe while we're nationalizing abortions we should nationalize good health care in general.

98104...

"...maybe the reason people posted more on this cover than over the slog post on abortion, is because, maybe, like me, some people see south dakota as a blip in the larger scheme of things. as I see it, it will be challenged, taken to the courts and over turned."

Actually, with Roberts and Alito in place, they're smelling blood. The reason SD's conservative lawmakers are pushing the law through is so someone WILL challenge it, so the hearings and appeals will work their way up the court chain to the Supreme Court... where their boys can then overturn Roe v Wade. It's actually a clever and direct final assault on Roe v Wade.

Um, I kind of like McCain.

Also, I don't understand this whole procedure: You're all screaming about how many comments this cover is drawing, but at my last count, I haven't read one post about it that isn't just a dyed-in-the-wool Stranger reader railing against some bogey man who has yet to post their disgust at the image. What am I missing?

I beleive that we're in a dangerous spot, vis-a-vis choice. But here's why this is getting more posts than the abortion/SD item that Eli threw up: because there's actually a difference of opinion among Stranger readers about the cover. There's something for us to discuss and debate.

When it comes to choice, we're all pretty much pro. We're watching what's going down in SD with worry, but what is there to discuss? What can we do now but wait for the court case to make its way up to the Supreme Court, now stacked against Roe?

Yes, yes: we can write a check, but when it comes to choice this is a hold-your-breath moment. The worst may be about to happen, and there's not a lot we can do about it—that's not defeatist, it's reality.

So: the news about SD, the threat to choice, has been registered. People are aware. But, again, there's not much to say except, I guess, "Fuck you, Sam Alito, George Bush, and South Dakota." Then we can get back to debating the cover, or other stuff where our opinions differ and there is, therefore, something to debate in this forum.
