Us Perverts Thought of that First

Posted by on January 20 at 12:00 PM

Michael Savage, the conservative radio talk show host, is a jackass, and he’s a little slow on the uptake. He thinks Brokeback Mountain is “disgusting” and “vile filth” and that every Hollywood movie “is about a sexual deviant, or a pervert, or about somebody who hates America, or a corrupt businessman” — read excerpts of his rant here — and to that end he’s trying to kick up trouble by renaming the movie Bareback Mounting.

Dude, we called it. That’s exactly what Annie Wagner titled her review three weeks before you came up with your pun. Although she thought the movie was “a gorgeous love story,” “fierce and convincing.”

I'm pretty sure Michael Savage has nothing personally invested in what he says, and is basically a parody of a right-wing "personality" who spews whatever crap he thinks people will tune into hear. I believe there are a number of radio hosts who do the same thing. If Michael-Moore style left wing rants were all the rage, he'd be first in line for a show on the evils of GWB and his ilk.

While the Stranger may have been among the first to title a review with Bareback Mountin', the Sunday Times (London) published the phrase earlier:

The possibility of being laughed off screen also haunted him, particularly as the film was referred to by cynics as Bareback Mounting or Brokedown Mountain. [Sunday Times: Dec 4, 2005. pg 4]

Maclean's referenced "Bareback Mountain" as early as 26 September, in a write-up of the Toronto Film Festival.

Not that this makes Michael Savage any less of an idiot.

I don't know if this is still true, but I read a profile on Michael Savage a while ago that said he owns or has a significant investment in the company that makes Rock Star energy drink. If you don't want any of your money going to Michael Savage, you might want to refrain from buying that product.

Michael Savage's son is actually the founder and CEO of Rockstar. And Michael Savage's real name is Michael Weiner... haha, "Weiner."

whatever, Brokebutt Mounty is a better name anyway.

Your site is amaizing. Can I share some resources with you?

Holla and Happy Thanksgiving.

Very interesting and professional site! Good luck!
