Steinbrueck Keeps it Public

Posted by on January 20 at 17:09 PM

Here are the latest picks from City Council Member Steinbrueck. He keeps lefty lefty Juan Bocanegra in the mix! as the list gets whittled down to the 6.

Once again, I am posting with the stranger my short list of candidates for the city council position. the follow “stellar” candidates, not order of preference, will be named by me at the council’s Monday morning meeting:

Ross Baker
Juan Bocanegra
Gail Chiarello
Stella Chao
Sharon Maeda
Venus Velazquez

your humble public servant,

peter

Oh, that's just wonderful, Peter.

Perhaps you can tell us why in your
opinion these contenders are "steller"...Or do we have to
wait for the blossoming of that special flower represented by your collective final vote?

This process absolutely confirms the need for district representation on the council! Now!

Hey Jensen --

That propoal has been voted down, I think several tiems, by the democratic process call an all city election. No chance.

OK list. A good chance one of these is the newbie.

U Smith-

You are someone who should think before you post.
By your "thinking" the Democrats should not challegne the Republicans in 2008 because they lost in 2004 and 2000.
Also Districts only by 9,439 votes the last time with 46.25% of the vote. That election also had an adnormally low turnout below 37% which has never been explained.
Our Day Will Come.
Districts Forever.

Thanks Zander for the stern rebuke.
What simpleton would think the scheduled elections for candidates have anything to do with special issues like this - and a public vote.

Please.

The old political Wards are the base for nepotism, real corruption and the my fieftom vs. the oher fiedoms system - generating real winners loosers in the vast city programs..

In Seattle, all council members are subject to all citizen input on a given issue. Gives the citizen base a lot more power fighting city hall. Also, when you understand the commitee system, you know who to go to on a given subject.

The King County Council is by district, that explains why the County has several very stupid regressive Republicans, locked in districts from the R Eastside. The caliber of Mr Irons for example.

We obviously disagree. Not becuse I am politically stupid. It is a bad idea to change back to the old days.

U Smith-

Doesn't sound like you ever actually tried to "fight city hall".
Your observation about the Committee system contradicts youself. Why would you have to seek out the committee chair if every council member listens to you?

It is true the Eastside Republicans have gotten some dopes on the county council. It is also true that Seattle has been able to get some worthwhile Democrats on the County Council. Would you prefer it was elected at-large and we got 9 lowest common denominator candidates elected on approval of the Eastside.

Strippergate demonstrate the current systems vulnerability to corruption.

Politics requires politics. You should not be afraid of people standing up for themselves or speaking out.

Strippergate --- As scandal goes, pretty tame.

Despite the flaming nickname, it was about a legitimate business wanting more parking using the vacant lot next to it. Neighborhood prudes had stcked all zoning meetings to give the place a lot of trouble.

Seattle is a straight arrow place, should have known better.

The pro stipper election this fall, which I support - will be great for the Council. And might unleash challenges to those who voted for the silly new law.

I guess my point and the commitees is simply - that is the way it works and if you have a specific issue work all the members of the committtee for possible action and real input.

Do you believe the committee system will disappear if we initiate district
representation, U Smith?

I get that impression based on your posts.

District representation seems to work okay in our current state government. We have a committee system which is composed of elected legislators that represent a district.

One has the opportunity to talk with either the memebers of a particular committee or their district rep.

What makes Seattle so different in
your opinion, U Smith?

Follow your dreams, you can reach your goals.

Holla and Happy Thanksgiving.
