WHy not Javier Valdez? He's a great guy and has real ideas for a change.

The question isn't about who looks
good to us. The question is about
who looks good to the council. They
will go for someone safe i.e., a
known community member, responsible
and politically non-threatening.
They are not going to take a chance
on an unknown.

You two have spent a lot of time
today sizing up the beauty parade,
however it really isn't about
the contenders...It's really
about what kind of person the
council expects to have join their
club.

I think you can further narrow
down that list.

I was going through these posts and came across the name Jack Edson Whisner. Hey,wait a... Jack Whisner?! I know that guy.

Jack's been a transportation advocate with some ambitious, yet practical, ideas. He's got an agenda. He's got the right agenda. And he's the kind of no-nonsense, hard-nosed guy who could serve as an antidote to the present council's whimsical, flimsical bent.

I guess you would call this an endorsement. Go, Jack!

holy cow, i know jack whisner as well! ditto on the comments above - jack's a smart guy and his vast knowledge of transportation issues would certainly benefit the council.

i'm with the poster above - Go, Jack!!

I'd support any qualified candidate who tells the Sonics to go screw themselves if they don't like Key Arena, and who tells Paul Allen to put up his private fortune as collateral for the $500-700 million in public subsidies he is demanding for his real estate schemes in South Lake Union.

re: Sonics and Paul Allen

Word up.

Did Tina Podlodowski show up? If so, did either of you find her impressive-enough to make the final-12 cut?

No, Tina Podlodowski didn't apply - she's supporting Sally Clark, a former aide.

* Steinbrueck's Preliminary Choices for Appointment to the City Council*

Stranger friends: here is my preliminary "short" list of confirmed nominees to fill the city council position recently vacated by Jim Compton. I will forward this names to the full council on Tuesday morning. I am reviewing candidates' resumes all weekend, and will post more names as I make my decisions. I am also alerting my candidates as early as possible so they can hopefully benefit from my endorsement and get to work on obtaining support from other councilmembers over the weekend:

My choices are as follows:

# 2 Juan "hellraiser" Bocanegra
#16 Robert Zaponne
#18 Javier Valdez
#20 Gail Chiarello
#34 Stella Chao
#58 Roger Valdez
#59 Mark Henshaw
#79 Ross Baker
#87 Alice Woldt
#91 Denise "Cookie" Bouldin

Fortunately, we have some very good candidates to choose from. I am seeking the best and the brightest, who possess great personal interity, a proven record of commitment to community and the common good, and are willing to work hard and collegially (something lacking right now) on the council and run for election in the fall of '06. As I have eight additional choices to make between now and Tuesday, I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please email me at peter@petersteinbrueck.net.

cheers, peter
