Morning Snacking

Posted by on January 24 at 9:32 AM

My guy is a coffee connoisseur and won’t go anywhere that doesn’t have excellent java. I, on the other hand, prioritize the availability of good morning noshes in my choice of place.

It has been a problem for us to find a place that pleases both of us, as many coffee houses have mediocre snacks—as was documented by Sara Dickerman here, here, and here.

I think these articles maligning bad pastries are starting to have a positive effect. I just returned from Caffe Vita, where the food choices used to be merely so-so, where I drank some delicious coffee and snacked on some very tasty banana bread. Cheers to that!

gypsy java in wallingford [on ... 34th and stone way? i think?] has The Best Scones On The Planet. gigantic and moist and full of huge marionberries. probably not on the way for anyone up yonder, but if you happen to find yourself there, stop by. its worth it.

Bauhaus on Bellevue and Melrose. They sell massive slices of delicous chocolate/zucchini bread and these weird things called "no-bakes" that I could see getting addicted to. And Top Pot donuts of course. Yum.

North Hill Bakery on 15th in Capitol Hill has great coffee and pastries...their cakes are also fantastic.

Sweet & Savory. Leschi's best kept secret, until now. 31st and Atlantic. Ass-tonishing.

I like this site!
