Holocaust Memoirs: True?

Posted by on January 17 at 9:50 AM

So Oprah said that the “underlying message” of a memoir matters more than its truth. And her next book is… Night by Elie Wiesel?

Seems like an awkward choice to illustrate the who-cares-if-it’s-phony argument…

In light of the James Frey debacle, yes, Elie Wiesel's Night is indeed a weird choice.

But in light of the recent push for denying the Holocaust, it couldn't be better timed. (Although expect Holocause deniers to have a field day exploiting the Frey/Wiesel "connection.")

Oh man, I was totally hoping Oprah wouldn't touch the whole Frey thing, that she would just do her BANISHMENT thing like she did with that guy who didn't want to be in her book club and just pointedly fail to mention him ever again.

The whole ordeal with Frey is indeed offensive and now High Priestess has muddied her hands! What will we do?

Wow, Oprah is cold blooded. Who is next Primo Levi?
