He’s Baaaack. And Now He Doesn’t Like The Gays

As usual Tim Eyman’s got a slew of initiatives queued up.

There’s one preventing the legislature from raising taxes without a 2/3 majority vote. There’s one keeping car tabs at $30. There’s one that opens up carpool lanes during non-rush hours and mandates that all car taxes go to roads only. And there’s one prohibiting affirmative action.

Eyman updated the anti-affirmative action one yesterday, adding this language:

The commission may not require anyone to grant quotas, set-asides, or other preferential treatment for any individual or group based on sexual orientation or sexual preference. The specific protected classes under this chapter shall not include sexual orientation or sexual preference.

Basically, Eyman is trying to preempt the gay civil rights bill, which, for the first time in 30 years, looks like it’s going to pass.

Wishful thinking, Catalina.

Josh, I thought the purpose of the gay civil rights bill was to ensure equal treatment under the law for gays and lesbians, not to set up special quota systems. I'm not sure how Eyman's latest asshattery would impact it. Or is there another version of the bill I haven't read?

Okay, upon revisiting this I see what the little turd is doing. It won't affect the gay civil rights bill, but he's tossed it in as a bit of an emotional red herring to ensure his people turn out in droves to vote it down. What a jackass.

Exactly. Tap into all the good working homophobia out there in the red counties.

Never has there been any proposal anywhere in the USA for quotas for gays and lesbians -- discussions about that were always ended quickly, noting that it was hard enough without the an added political burden.

And Timmie looks so queer to me.

What a pain in the butt political leech. But he is making a lot of money - a new cottage industry that can deliver 200,000 per year.

Although he may indeed wear his hat on his ass, he may also be the biggest boon to gay families yet. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldnt this verbage make it wrong to support marriage for hetros only? Indeed the orientation or preference "Hetrosexual" wouldnt be entitled to preferential treatment anymore. I hope to see this written into every lawbook there is. Our new supporter Timm...shhhh noone tell him.
