The New Jim Compton = Not Dwight Pelz

Posted by on December 16 at 15:57 PM

Dwight Pelz confirmed today that he is not applying to fill Jim Compton’s seat on the city council. Meanwhile, a consultant to 2003 council candidate Darryl Smith confirmed that Smith is. The council has until January 26 to appoint a replacement. More info on the remaining 48 unconfirmed candidates to follow.

huzzah! Pelz for State Party Chair, some other schmoe for temporary caretaker on the City Council.

If he chooses to apply for it, look for Jim Diers to get the council seat vacated by Jim Compton.

Diers founded the department of neighborhoods--which he directed for Mayors Charles Royer, Norm Rice, and Paul Schell--and is deservedly popular among Seattle's community councils. Also, he is nationally recognized as a top-notch defender of local rights. (Check amazon. com for the 5-star ratings of his latest book about community building.)

As some may recall, Greg Nickels fired Diers shortly after taking office as mayor. Word has it that Nickels was already in Paul Allen's pocket and got rid of Diers to facilitate screwing other neighborhoods in the course of giving hundred of million in corporate welfare to subsidize Allen developments in South Lake Union.

Diers isn't into campaign fundraising, so wouldn't run for elected office, but he is exactly the best person for an appointment to the city council.

Well then, yawn. Wake me when someone's appointed. Pelz was the only eye opener among possible candidates.
