Dan, I was not kidding. Every time you post a hot guy….

mmmm yummMAY!

I don't quite get it. As long as it isn't creepy like that "Deep Cuts" poster, why is Dan supposed to care if you post pictures of pretty girls?

Whatever. It's move in just the right direction. The Stranger really needs to be more like Maxim, doesn't it?

Here’s what I'm thinking elenchos: Posts of hot guys seem to be a recurring element on our Blog. I think it’s a dumb thing to post about. There are already pictures of hot models everywhere you go, so it kind of makes our Blog mundane. Moreover, who really cares about other people’s j-peg daydreams.

Unfortunately, since publicly objectifying men is still considered “edgy” or “interesting” or “alternative” or “subversive” (yawn), Dan is able to post these pics.

My strategy to undermine the trend is this: Since, almost everybody thinks it’s boorish and idiotic when straight guys publicly “oooh and ahhhh” over fantasy girls (pictures of foxy women are not considered “subversive” but rather, they’re considered banal, frattish, and even demeaning or exploitive), I figure if I post a j-peg of a chick I think is foxy every time Dan posts a pic of a guy he thinks is foxy, my boorish posts will call attention to how equally boorish Dan’s posts are.

Or, perhaps, there will just end up being more pictures of pretty girls on the SLOG.

Posting this picture of Rosario Dawson is more objectifying than the picture Savage posted. He posted a thought with the cover pic that flushed out a real homophobe later in the comments. But the original thought wasn't gay, it was sexual. The only gay thing about the original post was that Savage is gay. So your comment to that cover picture was really reactionary, and odd. I don't get it and I don't expect any comments to your pretty girl posts.

Amy, I don't care if the image is "gay" or not. (And Dan's "comments" were about giving the guy a blow job...talk about objectifying...and you can barely see the guy's face.)

The point is: Dan can get away with posting pix of nude guys because sexually objectifying men is still considered "edgy" and "subversive" and "interesting." I repeat: Yawn.

I'll give Dan some credit: He's a smart guy, and he's not under the delusion that objectifying men is edgy or alternative. He's not a moronic NPR liberal. He's just having fun ogling foxy guys. More power to him.

But my "reactionary" point, Amy, (boy did you take the bait!) is that Dan's ogling doesn't really belong on our blog. I'm going to make that point by posting hot women.

I agree with Amy.

I didn't go searching for a hot guy to post. I stumbled over that book doing Savage Love work, and thought it was unintentionally hilarious. I put it up to crack a joke - if that guy couldn't find someone else to suck his dick, the rest of us are doomed. It wasn't just about the hot guy.

As for the other hot guys I've slapped up on the website, I believe Josh is referring to the Strangercrombie guys. But I posted just as many pictures of the Strangercrombie girls...

Josh, you could say The Stranger is edgy, subversive, alternative and interesting. I don't yawn at that.

I get that you want equal opportunity ogling, but you picked the wrong post to make your case about because the auto-fellatio cover had some non-ogling ground to stand on. I recall a pic of NYC mohawk boys Dan posted with a comment that he liked to look at them. That was for ogling and those guys weren't even naked.

I'm not sure anything "doesn't belong" on the slog. It's open for whatever is on your mind: Vivica Novak, the funniest squirrel in the world, or countering a picture post you don't think belongs with another that doesn't belong. Try to make the counter pic competetive, though, or post a comment with it, like, "Did you see her tits in Alexander?" That definitely wouldn't belong.
