RE: Syriana
I’m still waiting for a filmmaker brave enough to tackle the entrenched corruption of the fantasy christian allegory kid-literature industry. They could call it Narniana.
Sorry. I have now made that joke like 300 times. I liked Syriana, too. A lot. It reminded me of The Parallax View, the finest paranoid conspiracy movie of all time.
I think there is no doubt that this was a well made movie, but coming from the writer of Traffic it reminded me too much of it. Not in a Robert Altman Short Cuts/Nashville kinda way either. Interweaving plots that all shout out "this is so messed up but there is nothing that we can do to stop this" and then ONE plotline that leaves you sort of happy leaving the theater. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the movie, but I just wish I didn't know who wrote it.
