PostSecret

Posted by on December 15 at 10:24 AM

PostSecret started out as an experimental art project, and now it’s a blog, a book, and a traveling exhibit.

In November 2004, Frank Warren began distributing instructional postcards:

‘You are invited to anonymously contribute a secret to a group art project. Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession or childhood humiliation. Be brief. Be legible. Be creative.’

And now he’s compiled a book full of anonymous secrets just in time for Christmas.

The blog is also updated pretty frequently. My current favorite secret is, “I am addicted to Panda Cam. I watch 23 hours/week. That’s the equivalent of a part-time job. $$$”

Shocking though this may seem, this is OLD OLD NEWS! Seems like NPR revisited this story recently, but they also covered it last March and there was some TV coverage.

Hmmm, can't be that old, when it was only begun a year ago (I mentioned the date in my post), and it's an ongoing project, so in that respect it's still very relevant.

And while you're right, Mary, NPR did cover it a while back, it's had very little press otherwise.
I didn't stumble upon it until today, so it was news to me.

The site got a bit of (NYT, at least) publicity in October after the All American Rejects used postcards from postsecret in their video for "My Dirty Little Secret".

The 'blog is usually updated on Sundays.
